The Rest and Relaxation Garden

The Rest and Relaxation Garden

Peel, Isle of Man

This medium-sized garden is situation in a quiet cul-de-sac on the edge of town, and benefits from its location. However, it held very little of interest to my client, being mostly laid to lawn, with a sunless patio, and was mainly used by their energetic dogs. They asked me to reimagine it as a sanctuary for them to be able to enjoy family time with their teenage boys, away from their busy schedules.

The space now features a garden room, with sauna and indoor chilling space, a neighbouring hot tub and different paved areas around the garden, catering for different times of day. A new axis of symmetry runs through the design, linking the garden room, a tranquil reflection pool and a circular lawn with the house. A reconfigured conservatory allows a seamless flow between their living space, outdoor dining patio and the garden. A vegetable area with raised beds, a secluded hideaway bench surrounded by woodland foliage, and a dedicated dog space complete the transformation.

The result is a private, sheltered sanctuary for relaxation, family time and quiet moments in nature.

Client feedback:
“Jane has brought our outside space to life! What started out as a very dull area has been transformed into a garden we love to spend time in… now it seems much bigger — we could not be more thrilled.”
